 STRESS MANAGEMENT
What & How Can Acupuncture Help?

Stress Management

Stress has become such a major part of life in our culture that it has become the norm. It is so constant for many of us that we are not even aware of just how high our stress is and how it affects our bodies. Stress induces a “fight or flight” response in the body, which was fine when we needed short bursts of adrenaline to hunt down dinner (or escape being dinner) but does not serve us in modern life when this same response can last for hours, days, weeks, or longer. When our bodies constantly produce adrenaline over a long period of time our immune system becomes depressed, and we become vulnerable to all types of diseases. Stress therefore is the gateway to all diseases; if our immunity is strong we will resist outside diseases and maintain a healthy state within our own bodies, and if our immunity is weak we are likewise vulnerable.

Acupuncture is an amazingly effective way to rid the body of stress. There are acupuncture techniques specifically for stress, but acupuncture administered for any one given complaint will also have the added benefit of reducing stress. This works both ways, as the stress reducing effect of acupuncture puts the body into a healing state which is conducive to alleviate any given specific complaint. So a stress reduction treatment might clear up insomnia, or even make a stiff back feel better. And treating a stiff back will most definitely also relax the patient as much as a cocktail or two – without the calories or the hangover! Lying on a table for forty five minutes, away from the demands of the outside world, marinating in the free flow of energy, is a deeply healing experience. Our patients come to appreciate this experience in and of itself, above and beyond the alleviation of specific problems.

PATIENT TESTIMONIALS

Anxiety, Depression & Back Pain
My Therapist recommended acupuncture for my anxiety and depression. I also had back pain that Physical Therapy didn't help. My back pain was so bad, that I couldn't sit for more than 15 minutes with out having pain. When I started having acupuncture in November, my back pain was at a pain level of 8 from a scale from 1-10.My anxiety was any where from a 6-8, on the same scale. I sometimes would need to take anti-anxiety medications to help with my symptoms. By the end of December my back pain was between 3 and 5. My anxiety was a 5 or less. I have been going to acupuncture with Karisa once a week, and it has changed my life. I do not take any anti-anxiety medication at all. The depression is not an issue at all. My back pain is at a level of 3 or less. I can sit comfortably for hours.

I also had a massage with Maria. That was incredible. My back felt great after that!

Karisa is just wonderful to work with. She is very professional and caring at the same time. She gives me her undivided attention and doesn't rush me through the treatment. Colleen is always pleasant and helpful with making appointments and rescheduling them. I have recommended IHC to many people. It truly can be a life changing experience. Thank you all for your help

Anxiety and Stress
I began acupuncture last year, and really enjoy getting treated. As I nurse I understand how important holistic health is overall wellness and that people are very much over medicated. Many times lifestyle changes can prolong not only life itself but quality as well. I have been seeing Karisa, she is wonderful and have recommended her to many people. After treatments I notice a reduction in stress and am able to deal with my anxiety better. - Ana Gutierrez

Anxiety and Back Pain
Why didn't I try this earlier?? :)
Initially I came to IHC to receive acupuncture treatment for my anxiety. I had been referred by my physician, although I was deeply skeptical. I didn't notice the benefits I was receiving until I accidentally forgot to schedule a session with Bill for two weeks. Whoa! That was when I realized how much good the acupuncture was doing for me. I had immediately noticed that something was wrong - my anxiety seemed to return with a vengeance. I realized then how much I needed those needles. :)

I've now been going to Bill for treatment for over a year now, not only for my anxiety, but also for upper back pain and tension headaches. Although I don't go as often as I would like (due to insurance constraints), it still continues to provide me with greatly needed relaxation and relief. Thank you, IHC!!

Anxiety, Depression & Agoraphobia
During my first year in college, I had terrible anxiety, depression and agoraphobia. My symptoms were so bad that I couldn’t even get myself out of  bed without a fight.  I had tried everything else (therapy, meditation, etc…) and it wasn’t working. I had never heard of acupuncture but thought it was worth a try! The receptionists are so sweet and caring. The environment is comfortable and peaceful – completely stress-free. I never have to wait - they are always on time with their appointments. Domenic has been so empathetic and compassionate. He listens to me and is so smart and full of new treatment ideas. Acupuncture has given me my life back. I am now a junior at Stevenson University with a 4.0 average. I can go out and enjoy life now. Meeting Domenic was the best thing that ever happened to me. He is good at what he does. He has already helped me with other problems like neck pain from a car accident and GERD. I will definitely continue to come and use acupuncture. - Staci Hoover
