Herbal medicine has a long history in the Orient. The first Chinese material, the Shen-Nong Herbal Classic, was begun during the Stone Age and completed in the later part of the 5th century B.C., from which some important formulas originated.
In this herbal classic, herbs are categorized into different groups. “Food herbs” are eaten as part of one’s diet for general fortification, prevention and maintenance. “Medicinal herbs” are dispensed to each patient as an individual formula based on one’s constitution, environment and medical condition.
Chinese medicinal herbs have been practiced safely and effectively for thousands of years and have the greatest potential for beneficial results when prescribed by a trained professional who recognizes both the benefits and risks.
Herbal medicine can work in concert with acupuncture by augmenting the treatments or by providing the nourishing support for the “re-programming” and “re-balancing” efforts of acupuncture.
At Integrative Health Centers we carry various herbal formulas that are in the pill or capsule form to make them easier to ingest. To ensure safety we only carry herbal products that meet international GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standards and have been third-party tested for heavy metals, pesticides, and contaminants.
