A Lecture Series at the Integrative Health Center in Lutherville, MD
Holistic Nutritionist Christina Rutheiser will present a lecture series at the Integrative Health Center in Lutherville, MD on three Saturdays from 11am to 1pm: May 2, May 9, and May 16. The talks will focus on how with proper nutrition one can improve overall health so that managing weight is not a struggle, but a path to lifelong wellness. Each lecture costs $20 to attend but if participants pre-register and pre-pay, the cost for all three is only $45.
The May 2nd lecture will cover how and what to eat for torture-free weight management. Rutheiser will discuss the pros + cons of popular diets and plans. “Most every ‘diet’ will work, at least for the short term, Rutheiser says, “but who wants to be on a diet for the rest of their life?” Rutheiser will integrate the merits of plans that work best into a real-world approach to eating that allows for human frailty. “There is no special heaven for perfect eaters,” Rutheiser says, “It is not a moral victory to have passed up the brownie and no one is allowed to beat themselves up in my presence for eating ‘bad’ foods. That said, we can decide to make better choices more of the time, learn from our cravings, and develop a love for healthy foods and hone our instincts for choosing them.”
The May 9th talk will address why proper digestion is important for overall health and managing weight in particular. Rutheiser, who is a Certified Natural Health Professional, will discuss natural, food-based strategies for overcoming bloating and indigestion. “Getting the body to properly digest our food—so we get the most out of our food—is job one,” Rutheiser says. She will discuss how the prevalence of acid-suppressive medications like Nexium and Prilosec are working at cross-purposes with our digestive system and how getting off these medications, without pain, can help us not only with our overall health but with weight management as well, since incomplete digestion can lead to an auto-immune response within the body. “Many times the cravings we experience or poor food choices we make are the result of nutritional deficiencies or an overall imbalance in the body,” Rutheiser says, “When we address those underlying issues, it becomes easier to make nutrient-dense healthy choices.”
In the last of the series on May 16th, Rutheiser will discuss the challenge of disease conditions and how they can make weight management a struggle. Rutheiser says, “Issues like candida imbalance, hypoglycemia, thyroid issues, diabetes, celiac disease, and others can throw a real monkey wrench into our best plans, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still provide our bodies with the best possible tools for overcoming these obstacles.” Rutheiser will provide participants with strategies for maximizing nutrients and managing weight while facing health challenges.
