Research is coming in - “sound mind in sound body” is a fact. Physical activity improves brain function in the same regions adversely affected by stress and lack of sleep. Regular exercise yields long term improvements in executive function (ability to plan and carry out tasks quickly and efficiently). From a Chinese medicine perspective this makes sense as our bodies are designed for movement, and the vital energy (qi) stagnates with lack of movement. The brain needs its blood! The more enjoyable the activity the better. A dance class, a walk in the woods, tennis, anything fun.
