Brian was classically trained at the first nationally established university of Chinese Medicine in the world, the Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, in Nanjing China. There he had the opportunity to study under some of the greatest contemporary scholars in the field of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. He completed his residency training at the Jiangsu Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine. This facility is a modern and fully integrated teaching and research hospital offering both Chinese and Western medical disciplines. The hospital employs over 2,000 physicians within 40 different departments. The hospital works in partnership with the WHO and has become a key international acupuncture research facility.

Brian is nationally certified in acupuncture by The National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). He holds an acupuncture licence in both the state of Maryland and New York. He was a volunteer for the Acupuncturist Without Borders free acupuncture program for military veterans suffering from PTSD. He also works regularly as a site inspector for the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM), which provides regional accreditation for Chinese Medicine study programs throughout the country. He has given lectures and seminars within many of the local hospitals and universities including: GBMC, Good Samaritan, and Towson University. He was also a presenter at the 2007 International Symposium on Qi Gong Health Science. 

His main research interests include: post stroke rehabilitation, aphasia, and pain management. During his graduate studies he conducted a multi-center clinical trial within various hospitals in Nanjing and conducted fMRI experiments at the Nanjing Military Hospital. His work has been published within local and national journals in China. He has also been an editor for various acupuncture text books and acupuncture teaching aides. Brian has also worked as a translator and a teaching assistant for short-term training programs in acupuncture in China.
