Acupuncture for Migraines: A Woman’s Experience

I’m Luzie Buscemi with Buscemi Hintegrative Acupuncture, and I’m here today to talk to you about migraines. Migraines are a really big deal in this country. It’s currently the third most prevalent illness. About one in four households deal with migraines. Today you’re going to be hearing from one of my patients who has had great success with acupuncture for her migraine.

Hi, my name is Connie Hartinez. I haven’t had a migraine in about 57 days. Migraines were affecting my life. I was missing work like maybe a few hours a day… maybe a whole day, maybe like once or twice a week. There were times on weekends where I couldn’t do anything because I just needed to stay in bed. I’ve been taking Imitrex for probably the past 10 to 15 years.

They knocked out my headache, so that was fine, but there was also side-effects. There was grogginess. You know, I got sleepy I got a little grouchy, and I didn’t want to do anything the rest of the day once I took it. I would run out of Imitrex, and I could not get another prescription until the following month. My primary physician at Sharp, she recommended acupuncture. I told her I was tired of taking medication, so she says “Well why don’t you try Boel Acupuncture. I think you would like it”. I just thought maybe acupuncture since there’s no medication involved it would make me feel better, and it has. I started coming to acupuncture like twice a week, and after about three or four sessions of pressure points for migraines, my migraines started going away.

It’s very relaxing. Luzie makes the room very very nice and calm. I lay down, and she sticks needles where she needs to stick them, and there are times where I can’t even feel her putting the needle in. She’s very comforting. She talks to me; she answers all my questions. She just makes me feel comfortable, and I would highly recommend her to anybody. I almost forgot what migraines feel like because it’s been so long. I wake up feeling good. I go to bed feeling good. Knowing that I can live an almost normal life, go to work every day and not have that that pain in my in my head anymore, so it’s it’s been wonderful. I’ve been in such great moods.

It’s almost like it’s a lifesaver. Like it just opened up my life to more opportunities or more things to do in my life.
